What is the difference between etching and engraving
Keyboard etching and engraving are two different methods to get markings/designs permanently visible on your board.
Here is a very short summary on the differences between laser etching and laser engraving for keyboards:
- Etching - The surface is melted away with a high heat laser, leaving the below surface exposed and making the design visible while only removing a small amount of material
- Engraving - A deeper cut into the surface is exposed through multiple passes or a single slow + high powered pass with the laser, making the design visible while removing a larger amount of material
When it comes to the precise nature of keyboards, we prefer etching for 2D designs as less material is removed.
